Are Replacement Parts Now in The Fast Lane to Production?

We all know what it’s like when an important product stops working and the search for a proper replacement part begins. The frustration and impatience that ensues when waiting for the replacement to arrive is common, as tensions tend to run high. Many parts are specialized and take weeks to order, during which your product is completely useless.

A live demo conducted by Deutsche Post DHL in partnership with AXIT and evosoft, along with Siemens Mobility, Intelligent Traffic Systems showed that manufacturing replacement parts and shipping them to the customer the same day could soon become standard the industry. Same-day production and delivery is possible if communications between production and logistics is fully computerized.

The united, systematized alliance of all participants was documented live during the event. Everyone was able to watch the entire process online. The app from Siemens Mobility, Intelligent Traffic Systems made it possible to track the shipment on a map. Live traffic information was also integrated into the demo, making the arrival time easy to calculate. At the end of the demo the newly manufactured replacement part was delivered on time, even with heavy traffic!

“This example shows that same-day production and delivery of urgently needed parts can succeed if the processes are digitalized end to end and the production equipment and 3D printers can be connected with the logistical processes in a network”, said Frauke Heistermann, member of the AXIT management board.

While extremely convenient, how practical is this process? Only time will tell, but in the meantime, Caretech will ensure that you have what you need when you need it, apps and robots aside!
